Hello Guys
I have a few questions and would like your opinions.

My big female has finally burst and is now anorexic looking  .

The male is taking his job VERY seriously.

Now what should I do? my male is in a coconut fanning the eggs and my apple snails keep trying to get into the hole in the coconut and get stuck inside and he goes mad trying to get them out.

I cant move the snails as my other tank as it is in quarantine with white spot and my back up tank has no mature media in it so the snails at the moment are in my breeding trap. Not ideal I know.

Anyone have any ideas?
Also should i move the male and babies once they hatch and should i feed the babies (after their egg sacs have been eaten) green vegtables straight away?
Thanks

some poeple move the male and the eggs and hes coconut to another tank if poss 2ft one then when the eggs have hatch and when they are free swimming move the male and hes coconut bk in with the females they may breed again with in days feed the fry on cucumber hope this helps !!!!!!

Thanks Seanie
I have moved dad and babies over to a smaller tank and babies have hatched.

Most of the babies are still in the coconut but some have ventured outside.

Should I move dad back into the main tank when their egg yolk are gone or should I move him back before?
He is sitting at the front of the entrance with his head sticking out at the moment.

I now know why people call them "wigglers"!

Thanks

5-6 days for them to hatch, then it takes another 5-6 days for the babies to eat their egg sacs. They then become free swimming and independent move the dad bk u may have the females breeding with him again so beware it happens to me when i remove the dad with eggs and when i have returned him to the main tank with females they have laid eggs again within 48hrs so beware lol

to keep the fry happy do a water change offen some poeple do it every day abt 10% and feed them cucumber or curgutte
how many eggs have u got any pics

i think mine have stoped breeding lol not breed for abt 10wks or so lol just added couple more females to one of my males tank he has 4 females now in a 2ft tank shld be fun lol

No pictures I am afraid as dad is still in the cave with most of the wigglers.

I will move him back when he goes off parent guard duty!

Thanks Seanie.

Some of my baby BN's seem to have got their black pigment and then I have some that are still a pale yellow.

Is this because I have albino Bn babies? and mum or dad carry the gene do you think?

Babies are still under 1cm.

Are both parents brown or do you have an albino in the bunch. If both are brown one of them is carrying the albino gene. Which means one of the grand parents was an albino somewhere in the line.

Both my pair are brown. My other newer female (who has not produced eggs yet) is brown but she has a large red spot on the back of her head whereas the others dont.

Is this an indication one of her parents where not brown?

Possibly one of her parents was an albino as I have only seen those spots on the albinos. But on the pair with the fry I would bet either the parents of your pair or grandparents one of them was an albino.

I have a trio, male brown, female brown and an albino female, they all breed within hrs of each other! The male 'attends' to the brown fm, then once she had spawned my albino pops into the cave and my male repeats his performace!!

I have never had any albino babies, only beautifully spotted BNs:

Sean, sorry mate been ill this week so been abit all over the place and I am usually on the other forum (you know the one!)

Tackleberry thats a good picture of one of your fry. Wish I had a better camera!

I lost afew of the babies when I moved them.

Dad is now back into my Mbuna tank with his girls and the babies are big enough now that they have gone back into my tropical tank.

I still have around 30-40 babies and they seem to be doing well considering, that is if I could count them all.

Here is a picture of that female....

My female who hasnt laid any eggs yet (see the red marking on her head? or maybe not as my camera skills are pretty much zilch!)
