As the title says really.

I brought a couple of BN about 14 months ago and was luckily enough to get a male and female.

After trying dozens of different caves they seem to have settled on a terracotta plant pot that i have in the corner of the tank lying on its side. The first batch produced about 30 eggs of which the male seemed to gather up and watch over. Sadly I have a killer sailfin that eat them all :(

10 days ago I noticed one morning the female had laid more eggs but this time they were scattered about 5 inches away from the pot and basically all over the gravel. I used a spoon and a lot of patience to move them into the cave whilst the male sat there quiet happily watching me as i pushed them in and around him (he was in the pot).

He made some effort to watch them but again I caught the sailfin polishing them off when the male had left the pot.

Anyone know why she is not laying them in the pot? Should I have moved them? It was 9am so they had a whole day before the male becomes really active and I figured they would never last. I used the spoon but never touched the eggs, simple waved it so the flow of water moved them for me.

Sadly once again there are no eggs left for the male to tend :(

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks.

Simon

basically the sailfin is houndin the male resultin in him kickin the eggs your best bet if ya wanna breed them is remove sailfin or get a breedin tank for them

dont try push eggs back in put them in breedin trap with air stone and raise them in there

Cheers Dane

Sounds like the sailfin is off to the big fish tank in the sky!

I desperately want to breed the BN so needs must i guess.

Might see if the LFS want him, but it seems pointless stressing the fish for one old and decrepit sailfin!
