Bn Defense Flair?

I put some algae wafers in the tank and BN came out to have some but rubberlip was already there, standing in the front of the bogwood eyeballing each other, the BN started inflaiting his gill area of his face and produce two round white sets of bristles on each side that looked crazy. They started off on the side but when flaired up, they faced foward looking very intimidating. What are these exactly?

yes awsome, but even more amazing on an adult who is not more of a dark gray color then flashing them in pure white hehe
