My dominant bristle nose pleco started acting strange last night. He was pressing his bristles up against the glass and then swimming up and down against the glass in a manic sort of way and appeared to be 'breathing' too fast. I turned the lights off and he slowed down a little but not much.
This morning when I checked on him he was much calmer but he had made a groove in the gravel all along the side of the tank and he was occasionally bumping into the glass. His colouring is more patchy than usual, he always has a couple of lighter areas but now more pronounced. The other plecos (one girl one boy) seem normal. The water seems good (pH=7 Ammonia=0 NitrIte=0 NitrAte=10ppm). I did change things last night by taking out the dominant platy and removed an air stone. My wife thinks he might be attacking his own reflection in the glass but he has never done this before.
Today I added a new PVC cave and tiny power head (200lph) to create a bit more current where the air stone had been and he seems to like the current but the girl adopted the cave first.
Any ideas whats up?
