Has anyone tried keeping bluegill in their aquarium? what size do you think would be the minimum for 3 specimens? any information would help. thanks :D

Bluegills are cold water FYI., maybe a mod will move it for you.

They are messy and three would probab ly me okay in a 55 or a 75 they are closely related to cichlids and they are mean. they stunt easily too.

I'd say leave it here because no oneevery goes in the CW area.

I've heard its a challenginjg fish to keep. And it doesn't like unrelated friends

perhaps no one goes to CW because noone ever posts in there, However if its put in there it will be answered, there are a few people in coldwater and they are generally very helpful.

I didn't know there was a coldwater section :D

anyway..theres a small stream by my house where there a millions of bluegills. There really nice fish with good coloring. If i were to catch a larger bluegill with a hook i assume he wouldn't want to eat anything while in the tank since he would be scared of being hooked agian yet if i caught a younger more careless one he might eat. I currently have 2 convicts(2-3"), 3 tinfoil barbs(4"), 2 rustys(4-5"), and 2 plecos(4-5") in a 55. I know fish would have to go if i attempted bluegill but which fish could stay if any?

I'll bet that the cons could stay, so long as they are relatively large, for quite a while because they are mean, and the plecos might fly under there radar, but the barbs would be mauled. Now who moved you to oddballs? :dunno:
