I'm from Australia and was wondering the chances of finding some Orange Eyed Blue Tiger Shrimp. I've read on other forums that it's not likely, but on others I have seen them for sale. Is there any laws against importing them into the country? Does anyone have any or knows how I could get them over? I already have CRS, which are great, but I am just absolutely keen for some OEBTs.

Help! :)

Yes, Australia has *very* strict laws about live animal imports (think of the bunnies), as far as I know, even fish food (flakes, etc), need a licence.

I know, we're annoying like that. Not like I'm asking for carp or cane toads

I'm really hoping for a miracle 'yes' but I can't see it happening...

Annoying? Right pains in the behind! We don't get any of the cool fish/inverts and the cool ones we have are almost impossible to get a hold of or they charge like a wounded bull

Sorry, I've finished my tantrum lol.

What part of Aus are you from? I'm from Adelaide, and I've only ever seen CRS at the LFS and locally online. Occasionally I've seen Black/crystal and some reds, but even Ghost shrimp are nowhere to be seen! Frustrating!

Se qld. Shrimp don't even exist in my lfs (& not so lfs), I have 5 coming which I bought online. They are only cherrys, I actually wanted crystal reds. My lfs is probably the best in my area, otherwise ur stuck with petbarn, pets paradise & other pet shops. If I want other decent lfs I'm told to head to the gold coast but that atleast an hour or more drive. Brisbane has a few but again, an hr or so drive.

That sucks! I luckily have some really good local aquariums that aren't too far. Other than my LFS there's some CRS breeders the other side of town, so a minimum 1hr drive too. I've been thinking I might treck out there in a few weeks, once my tank is set up. They sell shrimp for $1ea, and plants for $1-3. :good:

You guys realise that some really cool fish are native in your lands..?

yep, as has been said, there is no chance.
correctly, in my view, Australia protects its bio diversity. well what's left of it.

I live in the UK. we are overrun by vile plague ridden North American Crayfish, vile rats known a Gray squirrels, Mink (to name but a few) all the result of lazy keepers. and all causing massive environmental damage.

this does mean i cant keep all the types of Crayfish i would like to. but HEY, rather the way it is in OZ, than how it is here.
