Blue Saphire Angel Fish

hey all,
a local breeder (brisbane australia) is selling blue saphire angel fish. They look awesome but..... although i am a newbie, i cant say that i have seen such an angel fish before...Do they exist or are these dyed or something???

There are lots of blue angels out there now. I think many of them come from breeding work by Ken Kennedy in the Philippines. I have a have a Philippine blue and it is not died. I have not heard of dyed angelfish. Now that being said, they seem to be dying more fish. And you are right to be suspicious. Try to get a photo.

I have not heard of dyed Angels, but I have heard of artificial colour enhancing. On a specialist Angel Forum someone bought something called a "Czek Red Devil" - a very deep orange fish. a few weeks after he got it, the colour started fading. And he was eventually left with a very washed out looking fish. Almost normal colour. He did a bit of research and it turns out that the colour is enhanced artificially in their diet. Carotine I think it's called. Stop feeding this and the colour will go.

Not sure if this is possible with blues, but this sort of thing does happen.

I asked about this for you on a specialist Angel forum that I am on.
If it's the same fish as the one advertised on Brisbane Gumtree, then the colours appear to be genuine.

Just stumbled across this post, and as it happens I actually bought four of these 'sapphire blue' angels from that exact breeder yesterday haha

I suppose any suggestion of enhanced colouring is essentially just a compliment seeing as they are in fact genuine
