thwey have soem of these at my lfs and they are awesome, what size tank would i be looking at to comfortable hosue a couple i know nothign about them, other then they prob get big, adn what kind of outlay im i looking at to keep them in terms of cost??

or would they even get so large as to need a pond

It sounds georgous quick get it. :lol: i would say no less than 30gal for three, comets need biggers tanks but fancy you can get away with it abit more.

they need a minimum of 10 u.s gallons each. they need to be kept slightly warmer than goldfish and 10x filtration.

blue orandas reach 7" and have an average lifespan of 15 years although 25 is possible.
as black ice has said 10 gallons per fish is recomended.
thay are social and like the company of other orandas/fancytails
the idea temp for them is between 18°-22° C
avoid feeding live foods as this can cause them internal problems;
good foods include Fresh spinach, zucchini, peas and lettuce. Frozen plankton, vegetable diet. Live plants will be eaten, so use as a food source.

HTH

btw how much are they?
At work we sell them for £5.95ea at 3"
