I added a Blue Lobster tonight..He seems to be doing well.
For alittle while he was getting bothered, but he was eventually forgotten about.
I'm just wondering what's his requirments?

Hi Ethos, where did you add him to? They are not really suitable to go in with fish as they tend to eat or be eaten (depending on size of fish and cray) What sort of cray fish have you got? There are a number of different species of "blue lobsters" or cray fish. If you aren't sure what sort you it is, have a look on this website

hopefully you will be able to tell what sort, there is also loads of useful info on there.

Just briefly crays are omnivors and need a mixture of meat and vegetables, mine loves peas, carrots, fish, mussels, cockles, etc, (hates sprouts  ). They need plenty of hiding places, especially when in with other crays or fish - when they moult they are very vunerable. depending on type of cray is the temp. it needs to be kept at.

If it is in with small fish you need to understand that fish is food and they are able to catch and kill fish; it is natural. Crays are gorgeous animals which are fun to watch and I still thoroughly enjoy watching mine feed and muck about - he loves pulling the filter about - he also make the tank exactly as he wants it, all bits of wood moved, any plants ripped out etc. beautiful, fun and destructive. enjoy.

We used to have a blue lobster, but he didn't like it when we moved house and died a few months ago. We really miss having him around and want a new one but none of the fish shops we visit seem to sell them. Can anyone recommend a source?

Cheers
Lou

I keep mine in a tank by himself, I wouldnt risk keeping anything with him but they are great to watch, not sure exactly what kind he is, dont know if anyone knows from this picture

Before anyone asks, you can see a catfish peeking out from the rocks at the back, he was only in there for a week before his tank was set up after I rescued him from the aquarium in the place I used to work.

Hi big mick, have a look on the link in my post above, you might find out which is your cray fish from there.

I had a little look but there were a couple that looked like him, there were some others with HUGE front claws, mine (Dr Zoidburg) has little claws like some of the American ones but normally he isnt as blue as the ones in their pictures, he looks blue in my attached picture because of the blue moon bulb I have in his tank....normally he is quite a dull grey/blue colour.

He has actually just this second moulted, its the first time Ive seen him doing it....normally I just get home from work and think he has died for a second till I realise its just his shell LOL.

Mine (Thermidor) is a Cherax Quad. and they tend to be reasonably standard, but some of the other crays come in different colour morphs, so maybe he is one of the American ones. :)

Hi Lou, where are you from?

i have got an electric blue lobster in with six pirahnas, they get on well and have their own territories. if they do cross each others paths, lobby will usually rear up and the red bellies swim away. we have jus noticed this morning that he has molted, how fascinating, never knew they did this. any info on molting would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Make sure your crayfish has good hiding places when it moults, especially with aggressive fish around. They are very vunerable after a moult, and very weak. Do not remove the moult. The crayfish will eat most all of it. Also, do not feed him anything else until he does eat it. It helps to harden the shell again.
