Dear Sir,

I have the Panaque Suttoni available in Singapore and I was thinking if you have any customers looking for the Blue Eyed Pleco?I have sizes ranging from 16cm-35cm in size. Do let me know if anyone is interested in this fish. Thanks.

I would love a 100 of therm but they aren't allowed into the country

I can send it to you if you want it That is not a problem. It is not an endangered species. It is rare.

sorry, but we just aren't allowed to bring them into the country. We go to jail if we bring them in.

yep.
They aren't on the list of allowable imports. Therefore if anyone brings them into the country the fish get confiscated and destroyed and the people involved get fined and go to jail.

The government is concerned the fish could get out into the natural waterways and cause problems to the native fish. Anyone who knows anything about the catfish, knows they are harmless enough and wouldn't do any damage to the native fishes. In fact most of the native fishes would probably kill and eat a panaque if they saw one.

The fish shops and importers have been trying to get the laws changed for years but the government just won't let them in. It is very annoying because there are plenty of really nice fish that just are not allowed into the country.

wow, no wonder i havent seen a blue eyed panaque for a while! i didnt know that! why blue eyed though and not any other plecs?

Most plecos and suckermouth catfish are banned imports, as are most loaches. They only recently allowed Botia sidthimunki and B. lohachata to be allowed in. The price of them plummeted as soon as they were. Originally you would pay $50ea for a B. lohachata and more for a sidthimunki if you could find them. Now they sell for less than $10each and every shop has them.
Panaques have only ever been smuggled into the country occasionally and only in small numbers. If you can find them you will pay more than a $1000 each for little ones (less than 4inches). Zebra peckoltias are the same and we haven't had any new common bristlenose catfish come into the country for decades.

The government is just too worried these fish will wreak havoc on our native species. What a joke. Stupid pen pushers wouldn't know a harmless fish if it bit em on the ass.

so all the plecos in the country stay in the country, and no new species can be brought it?

I did hear the someone was cought brining some pleco's into Australia in bags in their trousers!!!!!!

Here in the UK it's not so bad, still you need a license to import fish or again these will be destroyed!!!!!

How ever I've not seen the blue eye in over 15 years when i was a kid they was all over the place.

The Panaque Suttoni is not a prohibited species in the U.S. The reason you have not seen them for 15 years is because they live in an area controlled by radical guerrilla nationalists. Many state laws, like Maine, actually have lists of fish that they classify as unrestricted, which means you can have it without a permit. This species appears on all of them. Federal law is supreme over state law, so there is no way a state could allow this species if a federal ban existed. Where did you hear that they are illegal Colin_T?

I thought the WA stood for Washington state here in the U.S. However, I know that andyourblueblood is in the U.S. and was afraid he and others may have assumed that WA was Washington as well.

this pleco was on a list that i get my wild caught fish from nut didnt buy 1 or 4 cheap to buy
Ancistrinae sp (L239) ie that one is that the same fish thats ban from inports
