blow out?

Could holes be the first sign of him blowing out his fins from flaring? Yesterday, he had two pretty big holes in his caudal fin, and one in his anal fin. I was really worried about it, but this morning the one in his anal is gone, and the two in his caudal are much smaller. However, he's flaring at everything this morning for some reason, and I swear those holes are slightly bigger now than they were an hour ago. Is that how blowing out their fins starts?

unfortunately, I don't have a test kit. It's just a 1 gallon mini-aquarium, and I do 100% wc's every 2-3 days. I don't have melaFix, but I do have BettaFix. The holes are almost gone now, and I haven't even changed the water yet. That's what makes me think it might be blow out instead of water conditions.
