bloody women

tank been up and running for 2 weeks, started with 4 guppies and 12 neons, used established gravel etc to help bacteria side along

then a week later she came home with 2 small catfish and 2 blue dwarf guramis

i told her time and time again we should wait but noooooo ya know what women are like

anyway a week later and there all still fine, until yesterday, she comes home with a male crab!!!

plonked him in tank i had my doubts, this morning he seems lifeless, moved him with my hands to ontop of filter incase he needs to be out water but think hes died.


tank water also looked slightly more cloudy this morning, could that be a bacteria spike?

ive just done a 20% water change just incase

and yes i know a lot of you advised no crab for atleast 8 wks i did telll her, maybe she will learn now, i just hope the rest of fish will be ok

You probably needed some land in the tank for the crab to climb on.

As for berating women, I don't think you should do that. Just explain to your...____... that you have to cycle the tank, that the fish will die if you add too many at one time, that they have special needs that have to be researched, etc. You should have some patience and try explaining the necessity for being patient when caring for fish.

If so, I am also and wondered if you could advise if some medications are available here or not. Sometimes when I see medications listed on other sites and forums I can't find them here in the pet shops.

i think it's better to ask Eelzor, i'v been quite lucky so far, and havn't needed any medictions (except for my angel with fin rot)

crab need land? i didnt see him make any attempts to go to top, he could of easily climed up bubble airline etc
in the shop they climbed up similar etc


is there something you can buy that sticks to inside of tank or similar they can climb up and be out of water?

I agree with Nina, or maybe she (I take it that Nina is a "she," both because of the anger and because of the name) agrees with me. However, the original sentiment hasn't been reiterated, so I guess apples24 has calmed down?

Anywho, crabs aren't spiders, they can't climb up the airlines and stay up there like that. You could possibly try floating plants, lily pads, or fake lilypads if you really want the crab and can't get rocks for it.
