BLOODY WHITESPOT!!! HELP

Hello I got abit of a problem.... I have a tank thats measures 4ft in length, 1ft 1inch(?) in Height and 1ft in width but I cannot work out how much water it holds using the calculator provided on this site plus I'm absoloutely rubbish at maths - please help!

Also have I gotten it wrong buying the fish below from the girl who works in the fish section???

The tank originally belonged to my brother who lost interest after abit and gave it to me when I moved into my new flat, I used to look after his fish when I was a kid but now that I've had it - I can't remember owt!

I filled up the tank without taking down how much I was putting in! I've had it up and running for about 9mths now but I originally bought 11 neon tetras to start off and they got white spot, obviously I treated it with stuff but 9 of them died leaving me two survivors which have quite happily had the tank to themselves for the past 8mths and have gotten bigger. However after finally finding time to get more fish

2x Angelfish
1x Clown Loach
2x 3spot Gourami
2x swordtail
4x neon tetras

from a place called Pets at Home in Edinburgh, Scotland I've also discovered that some of them have whitespot too and that they're infecting the rest!!!! I still have the whitespot drops from last time which make the water a dark green colour but I can't remember or work out how much to put in due to not knowing the volume of my tank. Plus I forgot about the quarintine thing and I don't have another tank for it. Please advise as 3 of the newbies have already died - 1 angelfish, 1 swordtail and 1 tetra
I'm taking them back for a refund/replacements. Please anyone gimme some advice!!!

I recon you've got a 100ltr tank mate

For the white spot I'd recomend Protozin by Waterlife. 3ml on days 1,2,3 & 6

A lot of that ich medicine is very harmful to scaless fish...I would be very careful on how much you use...I have had better luck with raising the temps and doing small water changes daily and a good water vac after 10 days or so...The parasite cannot survive at temp..of 85 degrees...Some people do not like to raise the temp that high..But myself I think it is the best way to get rid of ich and the good thing about this is that you dont have to have any medicine at all..I have learned that the less medicine you have to use the better..

Ummm....it does survive at this temp.....I had a bad outbreak of ich in my tank during summer when my tanks temp naturally sits at 90F.....the only thing that got rid of it was medication (i couldn't use salt as I had catfish and didn't have a quarantine tank for the other fish)....

Where I can, I use salt....fortunately I haven't had an ich outbreak for 4 months now....

The purpose of raising the temperature is to speed up the life cycle of the ich parasite so that it can be easily eradicated using whatever means you choose.

My advice is to not buy fish from pets at home..........the whitespot treatment I use is WS3 white spot terminator by King British. I find this treatment to work very well. However, watch your dosage with the clown loach in there,as they don't like medicine at all.

Your tank is somewhere between 25 and 30 uk gallons in size. I'd recomend two things

1)As stated above, increase the temprature and possibly treat with somehting like protazin

2) DO NOT BUY FISH FROM PETS AT HOME (lol looks like someone already suggested this whilst I was typing away )

Thanks its the WS3 white spot terminator I have - it was really good the last time, I've already raised the temp to 25C and fortunately none of the remaining fish have snuffed it during the night but I don't want to push it in case I put them on a slow boil!

Does anyone know the equation for working out the volume like height x witdth x length = volume or summat like that, as I don't want to take the risk of using the wrong dosage of WS3. (clown loach and all)

Ha ha(!) the reason I went to Pets at Home was coz its the main pet store in Edinburgh you get everything there snakes, rabbits, fish, birds etc and after the first original outbreak of whitespot with my tetras 8mths ago, which were bought from an aquatic shop I was pretty paranoid about buying more fish and a friend had said that all the fish at pets at home clean and you didn't have to worry about infections(!) Boy was that wrong :stupid:

any ideas on the equation anyone and can anyone advise on a really good book to buy on looking after fish and types of fish? Basically one that has everything you need to know about them and doesn't cost a fortune!

I have always been very successful with raising the temp. to 85 degrees in killing the parasite off.I am not saying that you didnt get it killed off with 90 degree temp. I am just saying I dont know how.
