I got some blood worms yesterday. As you can see from my sig I don't have a heavily stocked tank so still have a bag full left.

At the moment they're just sitting in the bag by the tank. How long do they live for? Are there any good ways to store them? I don't have a cone feeder thing, do you recommend them or is just using a pippet okay?

Live foods like bloodworms are best kept in the bottom of the fridge and can be stored for up to 2 weeks this way. I feed mine by just tipping the required ammount into the tank and letting the fish find them, im not a believer in using turkey basters etc to direct the food to the fish, if theyre hungry theyll find the food.

I agree with CFC, in the wild fish dont have turkey basters...or maybe they do and its just one big cover up...or maybe i will just end this post now.
Eitherway I keep my live food in the bottom of my fridge (or a cool place).

When I was up the Amazon, all the native Indians had turkey basters, they just hid them when westerners were around!

I agree with you guys, but a turkey baster does come in handy for my 10 gallon. If I didn't use the baster, either my frog would starve to death or he would die because of pollution. Then again, I use frozen bloodwrms, but that shouldn't make a difference.

Thanks guys. The blood worms are now in the fridge.

Just curious, how often do you feed them to your fish?

I've been using a pippet to direct the food at a couple of injured guppies, the rest I just dump a load in and leave them to it. Well, exept for a rather stupid gourami who spends his time trying to reach the few uneaten bloodworms at the bottom of the breeding trap which is a temporary hospital for my 2 guppies. After 5 minutes of trying to eat through plastic I take pity on him and squirt a few worms in his direction.

How often you feed live foods all depends on what fish you are keeping. Carnivorous fish which need high protein diets should be fed with live or frozen foods every day, omnivors twice a week with plant/algea based foods inbetween and herbivors just every now and again.

For the fish in your signature i would feed bloodworms every other day with flake and pellet foods on the alternative days.
