Hey everyone,

My betta seems to have decided she is too good for pellets and is only interested in eat frozen blood worms and frozen brine shrimp. I had been feeding these to her occasionally instead of pellets. Will she be fine on this diet?

Thanks :)

She should do just fine on that diet. See if every now and then if you can get her to eat some pellets just to give her some variety but other than that that diet is perfectly fine.

With respect I would disagree.  Bloodworms should only be fed once or at most twice a week to any freshwater aquarium fish.  The high fat content is not good.  I think there is something about the high protein too, but can't remember precisely.  As for brine shrimp, there is very little nourishment in this as a staple food, it is mainly exoskeleton.  With these two foods only, a lot of essential vitamins and minerals are being left out.

I would tend to lessen the bloodworms/shrimp even completely and get the fish eating good prepared foods.  Try different brands, not all fish seem to like the same foods.  I use New Life Spectrum flake and pellets, and Omega One Veggie flake for my upper fish, alternated over three days.  Variety is a good idea too, especially with finicky eaters.

Some how I never saw these replies! Thanks to both of you for answering :)

She has since started eating pellets again, and I have been keeping the blood worms and brine shrimp as only an occasional meal on different days through out the week.

Any worm in general is fattening and should only be fed sparingly to avoid bloating issues. But glad that she's back to eating pellets again! :)
