Hi fish forums, i'd liike to know if i could keep 2 blood parrots in a 55 gallon with 2 pictus catfish,7-8 tiger barbs and a rainbow shark. Right now my tank is cycling. Its been 4 weeks, so when its done ill pick up the fish. Im just asking if they could be compatible with each other. And if so what kind of food do they eat? Also if you think im overstocked,(probably am) which fish should i return to the lfs so they'll be happy with the exra room. Thank you if yo responded. P.S this is one of the best sites with good info on many aquarium fish.

hi. as far as you wanting 2 blood parrots the yeah i think that will be ok. but that is the minium in tank size. your fish should be ok with the parrots but do keep an eye on the tiger barbs but should be ok. i have two parrots and the food i feed mine are frozen bloodworm, good quality flakes and pellets. hope this helps.

Would be a nice looking set up if you get the really blood red looking BP's (the orange goldfish looking ones are not as nice).

I would recommend a larger tank for many bp's, they often get larger than 6" - even up to 12".All three of mine were over 8", one as large as 9 1/2".
Thorichthys Meeki, blue acara's, Jewel cichlids, and convict cichlids are good tank mates (they may be able to hybridise with a male convict too)...But they are also smaller cichlids, and produce less waste - so are more suited to your tank themselves.
I feed my bp's on hikari cichlid gold, peas, prawns, algae wafers, and JMC catfish pellets
I would recommend steering away from the bp's...You can see how large mine were in my 100gal - the pearsei was around 13" then.
