I have a pond with 8 or so large gold fish. One of then is very bloated and now has a trail about 6 inches hanging out of its rear. It behaves normal, no scale problems, swims well and stays straight. Is it ill or carrying eggs? I will try and get a picture but it isnt that easy to do.

need to know how the trail looks. Is it normal food coloured and quite thick or is it clear and zig zagged?

Are you feeding the fish yet and where are you from so we can get an idea on climate. temp of pond?

it could be constipated which is easily cured by fasting for three days and tehn a heavy diet of cooked squashed peas for a couple of days.
cold weather slows the gut down so make sure what you are feeding is easily digestible such as wheatgerm and the water is around 8c and the fish active. feeding at noon will mean the water is at its warmest and digestion will take place faster.

if its eggs then it will be zigzagged and should clear on its own.

also thin and white is a sign of intestinal problems

The trail is thick and food coloured. Im in SouthEast England. I have been feeding wheatgerm occasionally (every 2 weeks)otherwise they feed off the pond. All the fish are as active as each other and the way they always have been.

In that case i would say constipation and to feed heavily on the peas for a couple of days to see if that clears it. try giving a more varied diet as well
