I bought 6 Platy's about 2 weeks ago and i'm pretty sure that 1 of them is blind, the other 5 all seem pretty happy and are constantly trying to mate, but the other one i thought might be just a loner as she doesn't seem to interact with any of the other fish.
None of the other fish have any health problems and she looks ok apart from being blind as a bat!
I feed them twice a day and she's always last to the food most of the time swimming straight past it and then eventually finding the odd flake (can be frustrating as your trying to will her to the food, even worse when i used a stick-on tablet took ages to find it)
I'm very new to fishkeeping and was just wondering if fish being blind is quite common (apart from the blind cave fish) as i've done a few searches and can't find much info.
She has not gone blind while being in my tank and i thought she was just really shy at first (so easy to net when i transferred her from the bag to the tank) she swims around occasionally bumping into other fish and she feeds ok, but i was just wondering if any other people have had blind fish before.

Thanks

Except for fish with missing eyes, I've never owned one that was blind and would think that a blind platy fry would have not survived to maturity anyway as it would have either got eaten or starved. More than likely she is just a little thick :p Seriously though, is the tank cycled? She could just not be in the best of healthy at the moment.

The tank is still cycling at the moment 3 weeks so far and i've tested the water and all the stats are good, all the other platy are fine, there are also 6 fry that are doing fine as well.
I thought that the fish might be thick as well but i'm 100% sure she is blind.
She has swam into my arm while i've been cleaning the tank out and when u poke your finger up at the glass the other fish swim away, she doesn't even react not a flicker!
It took me a week to convince my girlfriend of this and now she is sure as well.
I'm guessing that this is not too common

Anyone know how much laser surgery for fish will cost? :D

Thanks
