I just got home from LFS and I had brought 2 blind cave tetras, I put them in my rio and the silvertips attacked them. They cahsed them and kept hitting them in the side [much as a dolphin would do to a shark], also they kept trying to bite where the eyes would be, if there were any :(.
I just wondered why they behaved in this manner? :dunno:
I have put the cave fish in with my danios( corect spelling for once  ), but I dont want them in there permently as I only want danios in that tank.

Any one in the Tonbridge area can have them free if you collect! :) email me to arrange day, time etc.

My tiger barbs tried this on mine when I added him, too.

I just flickered the tank lights every time they darted at him, which startled them away (they're wired to think the sudden darkness might be a predator going overhead), without bothering the eyeless cave fish at all. They quickly learned to leave him alone, and have not even seemed inclined to attack him since. They even let him school around with them when he feels like it.

I thought it was just because my cave fish was new to the tank ... maybe it was because he's a mutant monster!

Hi dannio2004

Although I haven't had the fish you speak of, I haven't had trouble with my fish attacking my blind cave fish.

The only problem I had with other fish, was with a betta who I eventually took out of the tank. It looked like the betta was afraid of them. He would back up when he saw one coming, then flare and lunge at it. He didn't actually attack them, but I was worried that he would. The funny thing was, that this betta was perfectly fine with all the other fish.
