this question isnt really for me as its a buddy of mine who has the pond. he's really suffering problems with it at the moment due to excessive blanketweed. all i need to know is are there any pond pets that would eat it as a primary food or is it a chemical fix up? there are no fish as of yet.

the best way is first to manually remove as much as you can.
then use a chemical or natural product to erradicate the spores..

I'd recomend a barly strew pad or extract as a natural product
or if you reall want to go down the chemical road try
TetraPond Algae Control™

Barley straw is meant to be effective.

I got some powder(sorry don't have container handy to give name). Got it from a garden centre. Is harmless to all pondlife except don't sprinkle it on the plants. Has worked well on our pond. :)

My Dad gets this powerdery stuff from the lfs that you dilute with water and then add to the pond. It does seem to make some sort of difference, but we do end up with lots of 'dead' algae on the sides of the pond. I thinks it costs about £8 a pack- quite pricey i think. Have you got a filter with a flourescent light-that also kills of algal growth but dunno about blanket weed.

Mine cost £8 as well. You don't have to mix it in water, you just sprinkle it on the blanketweed. Works very well. It is called Hozelock Cyprio. Got it from an ordinary garden centre. It can also be used to prevent blanketweed.
