id say try and get some plants to out compete it, or use a chemical treatment to kill it off.

http://www.pondprofessorponds.co.uk/ has a lot about blanket weed

Hooray ... and the pond season gets into swing.

There are a couple of ways to get rid of blanket weed. Chemicals work for a finite time because blanket weed is able to re-arrange its structure over time to become resistant to a chemical if it is used constantly so what may work this year may not work a year or 2 down the line. Blanket weed also lives (if that is the right word) on the disolved calium in the water eg. the stuff that causes limescale. You can treat this by using an oridinary household electronic device that goes under your sink on the intake pipe thats meant to stop limescale buildup or alternatively blagdon do a version designed specifically for ponds thats wraps around the pipe between the filter and the pump. Finally theres barley straw which is good but I don't find it to be that cost effective as it needs to be changed about every 4 weeks and has a lovely habbit of turning your water the color of weak tea.

Hope this helps

How shallow is this pond in general and how planted is it- are you keeping fish in it, and if so, how many and what types?
