black worms aren't they just mosquito larve ? put a bucket half full outside and in a couple of weeks you will have some just make sure you clean them before you feed them to your fish , i dont think they will live in an aquarium as they like mucky smelly stagnent still water i do this for my fish

No I have mosquito larvae already. They live just above the substrate. I am wanting what the americans are always talking about r.e. corys where they live IN the substrate unless I have got things wrong :)

Blackworms are used in many cory tanks. they live and thrive in the substrate :)

Black worms are not available live in the UK. You're stuck with tubifex worms. - Frank

Cheers Frank.

Do tubifex worms do the same sort of things?

Yes, but you must be extremely careful with them as they oftentimes carry pathogens which can wipe out an entire fish room. They are rarely used in the U.S., these days, unless frozen.

I do know Cory breeders in the UK using them from a trusted source. If you like, I will inquire about a source, for you. - Frank

I didn't know that, is that due to a fish & game/importation of wildlife sort of thing, or just general lack of availability?

Live black worms are farmed in CA and in small amounts on the east coast of the U.S.. I doubt the expense of shipping them and their delicateness in shipping would make them a commercially viable product in the UK. That would be my guess. - Frank

I think I'll give the Tubifex a miss Frank. I may just stick to adding mosquito larvae although thats only an option through the summer :)

Thanks for the help.
