Hello,

it seems that I managed to get some fry from my black widow tetras. I removed the parents and now the little tetras are in the small tank. The thing is that after 10 hours from their birth they still cannot manage to swim....is that natural? When should I feed them?

thanks.

They will cling on to whatever they are on for about 3 days i think before free swimming, which is when you start feeding.
Try the tubes of food for egglayers or get some insuforia going. I think thats obtained by placing a slice of raw potato into a jar of water and leaving on a sunny window for a few days.
Hopefully someone can help more with that, but congrats anyway on the young. What kind of filtration have you got?

No filtrations....just aeration through an airstone but only a few bubles so the water doesnt get turbulated alot. I will make a 20% water change today...

I'd suggest picking up a sponge filter for a fry tank and running that with the air pump rather than the air stone.

I though of that as well to do for my next breeding buch but I think it may slowly pull the fry towards the sponge....anyway I obviously have no clue about it so what would you suggest, which sponge filter I mean and ofcourse what size will that be.

I had an idea to glue 2 pieces of glass on the corner of the tank thus forming a square, the two glasses would have holes on the bottom and within there would be a sponge. Then by placing the airstone in the rectangle formed by the two pieces of glass and the sides of the tank, the water will by pulled through the small holes of the glasses , through the sponge and then up and in the tank again. Do you think this would be inefective due to the small area of the sponge exposed through the holes?

Cheers
