USA,
my dad wants to get one of those when we get our cichlids for our new tank. but im not sure if it would be okay with them. we were going to do lake tang, but noone sells them anymore, so i guess we have to do malawi or NW. how fun, lol. but would that get to big in a 20 long?

ps. i think thats what theyre called, thats what walmart calls them anyways, but they only are suppoed to get from 4-6 inches it says. but im also not sure if its maybe a pictus? My other walmarts better, but was closer to this one so went there to get filter instead.

A 20 gallon tank is too small for a new world or malaiwi cichlid tank, it doesnt offer enough room for territories.

The catfish you describe could be columbian shark catfish (Arius seemani), these are brackish fish and cannot survive in freshwater.

i know, i dont want to do malawi or NW, but dont see any tang cichlids anywere. though my lfs said they will have some next sunday, well just have to wait and see.

i think thats what it is...

but on here http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Di...6&TopCatId=1163
it says it could live in fresh water. and they are in freshwater at stores. Is there mayb a freshwater version?

could you suggest an alternative that can live with lake tang cichlids?

Wrs,
The black-tip shark can get up to 18" in it's own rights, and there are no 'versions'. They are sold as freshwater fish because in the wild, they are spawned in freshwater. But, as they get older they swim out towards saltwater and need saltwater to survive as adults. And like CFC said, there already isn't room in a 20 gallon for the cichlids, I wouldn't recommend planning for even more.
