I was at my LFS the other day and saw a clown with a disjointed middle stripe. (i think this is because of tank breeding) Anyway it was so cool and I wanted to get it but all the clowns in the tank had black spots on their bodies. I didn't want to risk getting the fish and having it kill all my others and so I left it. I just wondered if it wouldbe safe to go and buy it or whether I should leave it.

Many tank bred clowns just have funny spots. I don't know if there is a black spot disease or not, but it is very common for tank bred clowns to have disjointed and odd stripes and spots.

I got my perc when he was teeny tiny and he only had his face stripe. In the 6mos I've had him, he's started getting his middle and tail stripes and the black on his fins. As he gets older and the black starts to fill in more, I wouldn't be surprised to see it come in spots and then spread, as that's how his middle stripe is progressing. When I first saw the tiny white spot, I thought it was ich

Thankfully, it wasn't!

Wow, learn something new every day! Thanks for the link

Very interesting...

Julie-
Can you try and find out if these clowns have this black spot disease, or is it what Parker was talking about?

I'll go back into the shop and ask the guy what is wrong with them. He will prob tell me that there is nothing wrong just to get a sale but I'll go and quiz him anyway. I'll let you all know.
