black spot disease

B) Alright, I know black spot looks like black spots on the fish but how do you know if it is just the fishes patern and colouring or a disease. Are the spots big or small, I have been looking for pictures of it on the net but can't find any. :dunno:
 
The spots are most likely small; they are caused by an accumulation of pigment cells around a light colored cyst of binding tissue in which a slow moving lies rolled up. In light colored fishes, the spots may be more brownish instead of black.

Black spot disease may be hard to diagnose on a fish that is naturally covered with black spots; I guess you just have to look for spots that were not originally there, unless the fish is young and thus still gaining its full coloration.
