I bought a black shark about 6 months ago and he went from being 1 inch at purchase to just a hair under 11 inches at present. I've been able to find next to nothing about them except that they're a food source somewhere in asia and that they possibly can get 24 inches. I believe that it is a male because it has developed a hump or an arch on its back. Also, it is extremely aggressive to any fish larger than a rosey barb and ran out my large scat some months back (I ended up transferring the scat to full salt). Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has had experiences with these guys and can tell me a little more about them and what I should expect from it in the future.

Because I know common names are faulty, it was labeled a black shark when I purchased it but looks similar to rainbow and red tailed sharks.

P.S.
I am positive it is not a rainbow shark because they only lose their red coloring if it is suffering malnutrition or is stressed out by the environment..... mine is neither.

well from the discrition you gave it sound like a black shark.....and size is also correct ive seen one at 18inches,,,,and yes they do get aggresive as they get older, they need a huge tank.....redtail sharks usually max out around 6inches,,,,,,,,you should exspect huge sizing

from personal experience you should find a public aquaria or zoo that will be willing to re home it from you.
they are one of the most aggressive fish out there and should not be kept in the average home aquaria.

mine continually harassed my school of Apollo sharks, and I'm convinced they turned on him and ripped his face off.
they are a very nice looking fish, but the problems associated with keeping one happily and healthily far outweigh that one good point.

Ive got a 15 inch black shark they are awsome, send me a pm if you are still looking for info on them, I can help you out!

Wow 28 or 29 years old? Ive heard of black sharks living into their 20's but pushing 30! Thats crazy! Really great fish but they are nasty! My black shark just killed my 11-12 inch Texas Cichlid a few months ago. And as you know Texas cichlids arent pushovers. I really miss him, he was a really cool fish!

Here's the name for you. Labeo chrysophekadion
