Hi

I bought myself a Green star Polyp 2 weeks ago approx.... and now im having problems with it.

It used to open up really nicely everyday, until about 4 days ago, a little patch of it stopped opening up. and this morning i saw a whole patch of bare rock, where there used to be the purple base of the green star polyp.

I looked around really fast for any new/different critters, as the lights had just turned on, and saw this Black round thing on the side of the coral. I got my long tweezers and pulled it out, and it revealed a bare patch of rock too where there used to be coral.

I think i have now identified the black thing as a Dendrodoris nigra... a black sea slug or nudibranch...

Are they coral eaters? cos i cant seem to find the answer to that online.

ps. the slug is now in a floating fish breeder.

thanks alot

Oh and i also have a sea hare, but i am sure the sea hare aint the culprit here...

any ideas?

Nudibranch's can absoloutely eat corals so you've probably found your culprit. Lets just hope it hasn't laid eggs yet. If you were in the US I'd tell you to get a hold of two products, Tropic Marine Pro Coral Cure and Flatworm Exit and dip the coral in both of those to attempt to remove any nudibranchs. But dunno what's available in Poland :/

Your Sea hare is NOT your culprit as mine never ate my GSP

Thanks again ski.

Damn nudibranch, looks very cool tho.

I highly doubt i can find that here in Poland, cos non of the pet shops round here stock marine livestock/equipment, i have to go outside of town, to an Aquamedic shop to get my marine stuff. This and plus i dont speak Polish...

its only a very small nudibranch... about 1cm .. and alittle bit more when moving round... 1.2cm max... is this size big enough for egg laying?

thanks

Who knows man, fullgrown Berghia Nudibranchs are only 5mm long while others get in the 4+cm long range. Too many different species to know
