Just yesterday i've noticed that one of my Black Sailfin Mollys' eye has expanded in size! ... It look like one of those retarded goldfish with massive eyes. Is there a cure ??? and what could have caused the problem .. plz help me resolve this before it's too late

the one in the photo is almost identical to mine .. exept mine has cool silver dots on the skin.

yeh man! the silver dots are not really dots they are like these cool silver stripes that glow under the light! I have 2 of them and they are really cool ...

now back to the eye problem ... plz help

sounds like popeye (the disease, not the sailor man)

can be caused by a number of things

if the eye is cloudy it may be bacterial

other possibilities
poor water quality
stress
tumour
malnutrition
trauma

hard to treat, antibiotics may be effective

obviously check your water is ok, feeding properly etc.

try to remove any stressors - overstocking/belligerent tankmates etc.

I'm having the same problem with my betta, his left eye popped up over night, my first thought was nitrite level reading was too high but this wasn't the case as i tested the water for Nitrite and it read ZERO and i complete a water change the day before.

So i'm assuming that he got spooked in the night and hit something in the tank as the side of his face is puffed up too. So i have added melafix and keeping a close eye on him.

Suggest u check water parametres for ammonia and nitrite if you tank is new and improve environmental conditions.

If not maybe you could add Melafix to help the heaing process.

ok i had my fishtank for a while now so amonia is fine ... the PH level is also good.

I've noticed that the eye may be decreasing in size a tiny little bit so might be a positive thing

i dont have melafix but do have"pimafix" it treats internal/external bacterial problems ... please review the site and tell me if i should treat it with that

thanks,

since pop eye (if it wasn't banged up against somthing when swimming) is usually caused by bad water conditions I'd try a daily water change of 10% for a couple of days and see if your eye problem starts to get better. I find the mollys have been my own fish to develop this sickness even if the water conditions are in my opinion fairly normal (could be just my batch from the LFS though), also treating them with Melafix, as directed on the bottel, cleared the problem up for me in under two days. Best of luck I'm sure it will pull through.

OK the problem has almost gone away ... he must have ran into something i dont know ... Today i used pimafix and that might have fixed the bacterial problem .. i will stop using the medication now, thanks for all your guys help!
