Hi
Can black rubt barbs be housed with normal everyday tetras or must they accompany other barbs?

Didn't you believe me when you PM'd me about this exact same thing last night?

Hiya can you help me pls
48x15x18, 50 gallon
ive read that they serpeas are very aggressive, so ust thinking will they be ok with cichlids instead of normal community?

also

can black ruby barbs live in a tetra tank with tetras??

Hi Carney,

Serpaes are fin-nippers and so shouldn't be kept with slow-swimming fish or fish with long fins. Cichlids is a large diverse group of fish, so it would depend on which cichlids you have in mind. Angelfish for example would not be suitable tank mates as they have long flowing fins which the serpaes would nip at.

Black Ruby Barbs are reasonably peaceful and should be ok with tetras, but they are shoaling fish and shouldn't be kept singly or in groups of less than 5. Also with the black rubys, make sure you provide plenty shade / hiding places.

Hope that helps you.

No apology necessary. I always think it's better to post these things on the boards rather than in PMs because then everyone can have their say and people can be corrected if they post wrong info etc.
