black rock

a'right folks, just a simple question,

is black rock effective!! and also does it effect thetank at all!! is it easy to drill holes in it without breaking up!! the rock itself is very very dusty so would have to wash it well before putting it in anyway!! but i would imagine it would be good for the fish to swim around in!!

Yeah, effective at what exactly? Are you talking about a specific brand? If it is aquarium gravel, only black in color it should be effective only in so far as covering the bottom of your tank and giving it (IMO) a finished look (personally, I don't like bare bottom tanks, they never look finished). If you mean carbon (something like Marinland's Black Diamond) that is a media you use in your filter, and not directly in the aquarium. It's black and may be dusty so that might be what you mean...
