Restocking my tank after my diaster and thinking a picking up some black phantom tetras in a week or so. So does anyone think they would be suitable in my planted community tank. Also can I get some info on them?

I have kept Black Phantom Tetra's in my community tanks for over 10 years now (not the same ones I might add). they are complemented by large shoals of cardinals and make a stunning addition to any community aquarium.
Highly recommended.

I have kept Phatoms on and off for 40 years. Always liked them. Never had any trouble with them. They can be sensitive, like many other tetras, to pollution, so your water quality is important.

Some people have had troubles. Briarmoor, for example, posted several threads about her disaster with Phantoms back in November. If you search this forum for "Black Phantom" you'll find a lot of threads about them.

we have a group of 7 and they are always swimming about in the plants so they will love a planted tank.

How many should I get to the school? and also is there a male to female ratio?
Depends on the size of tank of course and your exisiting stocking levels.
Males have longer finnage and are a little larger than females. Females have shorter more rounded fins and are a little more plump than the males. I have always kept 6-8 of these little beauties at any one time with males nimbering two to three and the rest females. When they are healthy and kept in the right conditions you will notice the males flareing and sparing with each other (nothing to worry about) which is a true spectacle. You'll watch their antics for hours on end.
