Black Patches On Blood Parrot

I have recently added a Blood parrot to my 120gal new world cichlid tank with:

1 Blue Acara
2 Firemouths
1 Convict (Think Male)
1 Golden Sev
4 SD's
5 TB's
4 Panchax

and a few others

Anyway when i added him he was bright coloured but has since developed patches of black..... He or the SD's (also recently added) bought along a bout of White Spot which has almost gone could this be the root?

Midas + Red Devils change colour lots in their life cycle to the point they are a different colour from one year to the next....ie: 1 black and white striped, the next year orange, the next white, the next koi carp like orange and white blotches etc.

Blood Parrots are a hybrid between a Midas and a Red Head Vieja.

So could be nothing.

It doesnt look like a colour change like that, these are patches of black and has happend over a couple of days!!

He also seems to have lost some of his original naughtiness....

When he was first added he taunted my Convict to the point of continuously swimming into his cave to bring him out to lip lock then run away, did this 10+ times as well as chasing my BA. Now he seems to have lost interest in everything (except food).

Seems like the convict has also lost interest in his tankmates last couple of days, he used to rule the tank and anyone came near his cave he would chase away now he rarely goes in his cave and is even running away from my FM's (his main rivals who) when up until 2 days ago he would chase them!

The black patches seem to be getting worse! I have done a 40% water change today (did another one on Wednesday) but not getting any better?

"Blood Parrot cichlids are the only fish that can get Black spot disease. This disease is very common among parrot cichlids and displays itself as black spots on the fish. This is not normal or healthy and you should never buy Blood parrot cichlids that display signs of black spot disease. This disease can be a result of poor water quality and effected fish will get better if you improve the water quality. If the water quality isn’t poor the fish can get better after a few days. Black spots can however also be a sign of that your fish is in spawning mood"

From everything I've read the black spots seem like they could be simple like your fish is in a spawning mood.

From other things I have read could be water chemistry, water quality, or stress from one more more conditions such as on overstocked tank, being picked on/bullied, someone tapping on the glass of the tank a lot, etc...

I never kept a blood parrot but a quick google search on "Blood Parrot black spot disease" turned up some interesting results and could answer your question on what to do. Sorry I couldn't be more help
