Hello :)

On behalf of my housemate....

There are four fancy goldfish in a smaller-than-I'd-have tank (yes, yes, I know). The smallest is a recent addition, completely healthy. Tank is spotless, cleaned yesterday. It's a fancy Juwel one with built in filters etc.
She has noticed tonight that there are white markings and split fins on the two largest black moors. I would say they had just had a fight, but some of the marks look "fluffy" - like fungus? She is calling into a good lfs tomorrow for advice and treatments, but tonight is there anything obvious we should consider?
It doesn't look like whitespot. Not all the marks are fluffy, some just look like the black has "rubbed off" leaving the metallic scale showing underneath (if that makes sense!). The marks are scattered dorsally, and towards the head.

Is it possible the new arrival has upset the pecking order? One of the black moors is also slowly chasing one of the others around - as in not settling, and going to nip (but this victim has no injuries that we can see)
I'm sorry I've no stats on the water, but the other two fish are completely unaffected at the moment.

thanks in advance for any thoughts :good:

pics please if you can...and goldies are territorial, so if cramped will fight.

As for marks..blackmoors have a tendency to turn bronze with age...the white could be iits stress coat thickening up if it looks like a film. usually down to water quality or parasites being introduced by new fish. its why its important to quarantine fish.
split fins, usually means new tank syndrome..how long she had it running and has it cycled? how big is the tank and has she any readings at all? if not then its a disaster waiting to happen...just because the water *looks* clean doesnt mean it is. you cant see ammonia, nitrites.
Doing water changes should be no more than half at a time to keep some old water.

My blackmoor has exactly the same symptoms but i reckon it is because he had a tiff with a smaller fancy goldfish that he is with my other larger fancy goldfish is fine though.

It's not a white coat as such, just flecks? I *think* the tank is 54litres, been running since April or earlier, all fish have been fine, she says she has had 4 fish in there before with no trouble, but one died of old age, then she got the new little one.
Behaviourally they all seemed much calmer late yesterday, also the white flecks on one of the black moors seemed to be fading / vanishing. I will check them again tonight (her room is locked until she finishes work).
Thanks for your thoughts so far :good:

In my opinion the tank is too small, but it's what the lfs sold to her (they said she could have up to 6 in there?!?!!!) and she does do weekly water changes with all the necessary de-chlorinators etc.

old age is more than 20 years..a lot of goldies die in the first year due to poor breeding and environment problems.

without a pic, im sorry cant help more
