I got this black moor from a friend who kept it in a tank too small for him about 2 month ago and moved it into my 40 gallon (has two other goldfish) recently it has been lying on the bottom breathing slowly and only coming up for food. Any help

What are your water parameters? Do you have a test kit?

Are it’s scales sticking up? Is it bloated?

He looks great! As asked above, what are your water parameters? Did you cycle your tank first. For now, do a large (75%) water change and be sure to dechlorinate the water. Goldies like a temp of 65-75F. Please read this and let us know if you need help cycling the tank. He may be suffering from chemical poisoning (ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate). Daily water changes will help until you get the tank cycled. https://www.fishforums.net/threads/cycling-your-new-fresh-water-tank-read-this-first.421488/

Once you get the tank cycled, he needs another goldie friend. Goldfish are companion fish. :)

I only have strips so I can’t tell exactly but
Nitrate 0-40
Ammonia 0-0.5
Nitrate 0-0.5
The tank was cycled before he came into the tank and did fine for the first two month but started lying in the bottom now

I don’t have a test kit only strips but from them
Nitrate 0-40
Nitrite 0-0.5
Ammonia 0-0.5

he's not bloated and the scales look fine

See how he does after a water change. He could se more sand as they live to scavenge around in it. It’s normal fr them to “nap” on the bottom but not all day. Is that Nitrite or nitrate at .40?

You shouldn’t have any nitrite or ammonia if cycled. Nitrates should be kept at 20 or below. Can you get an API Master Freshwater test kit? Strips aren’t very accurate. :)

I’ll put more sand in now and the nitrate is at 0-40 it’s harder to tell with test strips but they’re all I have atm
