Hey! Does anyone know if black moors are loners? I have one that has been sitting in the tank with his nose in the corner (I told him he's not in any trouble and he doesn't need to sit in the corner) He still sits there and has for months. Is this normal behavior for them? Are they normally not very active fish? He's active when food is around but that is about it! Thanks!!

Sounds like he may be a bit depressed, or maybe your tank is to warm for him.

What size tank do you have him in?
Any other tankmates by chance?
What is his temperature in the tank?
Do you have decorations in the tank for him, so he can swim about them?

Do they have Prozac for fish?? lol He(or she) is in a 45 gallon tank (no heater) with six other fish (no other Moor fish though) There are a few plants (I'm working on more) and a light up ship. There is an under gravel system with a power head and two sets of filters (one whisper 30-60 and an emperor 280) The temp is at 74 degrees (It was a warm day today, we don't get very many of those where I live!!) If it's depressed, what do you do for that??

What are the other fish in with him are they goldfish? If you could I would try to add another black moor in with him.
How are his eating habits? Does he eat well?

Generally, goldfish are kept in species only tanks. If you have seven goldfish in a 45G tank, you are going to be severely overstocked since goldfish get very BIG. You should probably have no more than 2-3 fancy goldfish in a 45G if you have adequate filtration (10X) and do weekly or more frequent PWC's and maintenance. Black Moor's are more dainty than other goldfish and could be subject to bullying, even if they are all fancy goldfish. If you have him in with long-bodied goldfish, they are not compatible at all. If the Moor is getting stressed, either from bullying or overcrowding, it's immune system could falter causing it to be more susceptible to bacterial or parasitic issues. You should probably move it to a hospital/quarantine tank for further evaluation and potential treatment. Do not add more fish at this time and especially not if you have seven goldfish in the tank already.

I have had 3 black moors in the past, two in the same tank. At the moment i have a fantailed mix gold/black moor and a pure breed butterfly black moor. They seem to get on fine. (all have other but smaller fish). Black moors need alot of air in the water more so than gold fish. And if you dont have an air filter. Id get one (or add oxygen tablets but the filter is the best option).

Keeping the tank clean is quit important, and id do weekly water tests for a build up of amonia and nitrates, and ensure the PH is around 7.0. Try also giving it a treat or something like once a week.

For example everyday morning i feed them "Aquarian goldfish flake food" and "King British Plecostomus tablet food" for my plecos But also once a week i also drop in "King British Tubifex natural food" which is basicly small worms squished into a cube (stinks like nothing i've ever had the misfortune to smell) but once its in the water its fine. And both my moors go mad for it.

But yeah my moors seem to only get depressed/lazy (lying on the bottom of the tank) when the water is dirty or the PH is higher than it should be)
