Hi,
On one of my black mollies ,how to describe,after 3 days after I put him into the 120 lt tank, a whitish and pale film layer,like camouflage on war aircrafts ,developed on the skin.Some parts of the skin is still deep black.There is no white spots on the body.He eats flakes everytime I feed them.He is a mature molly I guess,approximately 4 cm.
Tank population is 6 mollies,2 lebistes and 12 fry.
Water temp=26°C
kH=12
gH<16
18 teaspoon of salt(mineral)
I have my filter running 24 hrs.

What do you think is that on my molly?

The symptoms you describe sound like Velvet. Mollies particularily black ones tend to be quite prone to it if they are stressed or living in poor water conditions.
Dinoflagellete Protozoa, which is potentially lethel to fish. It is similar to white spot but far more lethel and difficult to treat. The life cycle is similar to that of white spot. Signs are the ones you've already mentioned and as the disease get more severe, the fish has clamped fins, respiratory distress, twitching as opposed to flicking and lethargy. Malachite green is often used with some success, especially if only in the early stages, but once secondary infection takes hold it's unfortunately too late. The rest of the tank will have then be infected and would either need treatment or disinfecting.

Sorry WWW, didn't notice the other thread. We were however of the same mind- we both think it is a protozoan disease. I'll close this one so the other can continue if necessary.
Great minds think alike!!!! :lol: :lol:
