I purchased 4 black mollies on tuesday. By wednesday, i noticed that one had given birth as there were about 6 baby fish swimming around. Today there's like 20 in there, plus some dead ones in the filter. Couple questions... Will they eat regular tropical flakes if i break them up? Will they survive at all, assuming that they don't meet mr. aquaclear in person? I'm not going to buy a fry holder. I'm going to let darwinism go at it. There's a few that have actually grown about double their size since i first saw them on wednesday. Its really cool to have these things.

:D Well I have black molly fry right now about 3 months old. Well out of all 30 that were born only 5 reach adult hood. As for ur question yes mollys like crushed flake foods. Also remeber u have to put some salt in there since black mollys are brackish fish as for that give them some egg yolk. HTH :D

I have 8, 3 month old fry and I bought them a breeder trap and well, lets just say there were 15 fry... the breeder kept falling under the water and babies would not get enough oxygen and died...

A week ago one of my mollies had 16 more and I said F U breeder net and didn't put them in it. They are all still alive...

As long as they make it past the first few days they are pretty much home free. Good luck with the babies :fun:

My baby mollies survived for two weeks and with no visible signs of illness kept on dying a few each day. They would all be swimming about at night and the next day when the light turned on a few would be dead. It was weird as params were all fine!

I added a very slight amount of salt, because i also have a pleco. He doesn't seem to be affected by the salt though, but he's pretty much full grown, so i figure he can handle a little bit. There's only about a dozen in the filter, about half of which were still alive. I got them out. I think one more good day or two of growing and they'll be too big to get sucked into the filter intake.
