Today, my black molly gave birth to about 15-20 mollies, 2 of which i witnessed being eaten by my other fish but i managed to save 11 of them. Anyways, i was hoping if anyone had any idea of how long these fish take to become average molly size...And for those fish experts, can a silver molly and black molly ever mate? Because my silver male molly is acting really really really strange with my 2 other black mollies...looks like he is going through some mating ritual flapping, extending and chasing them.

Any tips on what i should do to take care of them better...right now there in a 10 gallon tank with filter, heater, a 78 degree temperature, and i use flake food that i crush to powder and feed it to them. If im doing anything wrong or need to do more plz lmk, enough of them already died dont want anymore dead.

Thank you (My first post).

Congrats on the new additions.

All Mollies can interbreed. Colors make no difference. It is less likely that different types of Mollies will mate as easily though.

Sounds like you're doing things great. Do you have a filter on that tank? You might want to put a stocking over the intake so the fry don't get sucked into the intake. There are foods that are more rich in fat for fry. Brine shrimp kits are available at any pet store.

yes it has a filteration system with a stocking over the intake. However i do not have brine shrimp...Although are bloodworms and microworms useable?

I only started using freshwater tropicals recently...I ve had a saltwater tank for about 3 years but had to give it away because i moved and had no place for it.

Hi there! I'd wait at least a month (and a half) before you put the fry back together in the main tank, but it really depends on what other fishes you've got. By then they should be big enough not to be eaten and to escape the evil baby eater filter! It should take about five more month until they reach adult size (as it was mentioned). My only advice is take special care with black mollies, as they are often more sensitive to changes in the water quality and to diseases. THe first fry to be born in my first, very new, small aquarium were black mollies and due to lack of experience I lost every single one of them! (I thought with one cm they could survive near my xl guppies... I was wrong :( ) The gupies however, always survive.... ALL OF THEM!

So make sure that water quality is spot on, make sure you feed them about 3 to 4 times a day (but very very little) and don't get carried away with releasing them in the main aquariu and you should be fine! :good:
