Does anyone know the best place (cost/quality) to get black sand or gravel? Online or in the Glasgow area.

yeah it is, but its expensive on that website i got mine for $12 (USD)

I got black gravel from Riverside Aquaria in Stirling, but ive got rid of it since then as its a pain in the arse to clean.
