I have been sitting on (not literally) a 75 gallon, for months now, just waiting until I move (May 1st) so that I could not have to deal with the hassle of tearing it down after a few months.

I was contimplating putting tahitian moon sand in it because I've seen some very beautiful pics of tanks with it in them. I also read that it cleans much easier because it settles faster and doesn't look as dirty after a few days pass since the last cleaning because poop and such doesn't stick out as much.

Not extatic about the price but the real thing holding me back is how my black ghost knife will look with black sand.
Anyone here tried this combo or the sand and any other black fish? How did it look?

We have this sand in our Dragon puffer & Brown puffer tanks, both of which are dark coloured & timid fish.
I think it looks great and the timid species seem to like it because to them it makes them feel more secure being able to blend into a dark substrate.

I'd say go for it, but you are going to need four or maybe even five 20kg bags to do a 75gallon tank and Caribsea tahitian Black Moon sand is expensive!

I understand how it would make your fish more secure, but I wonder if this would be the case with a fish that is almost completely blind. As I understand the bgk can only tell if it is light or dark out. but maybe it would

Don't worry many fish including the BGK use weak electrical signals to navigate-Anne

i realize that many fish use electric signals for navigation. I was just commenting that I dont' think the color of the substrate will affect the dispostion of a fish that can't see it.

Just make sure not to make the sand bed any deeper than 1/2-1", otherwise you'll have to thoroughly stir the sand every week, as not to develop anerobic bacteria pockets (toxic).
