Hi,

I have a small BGK fish approx 3-4inchs long. I have had him about a week, and wondered if he wasnt eating would he nip fins??

I also wondered if anyone has any tips on what to feed him and also how you can teach him to be hand-fed?

Thanks :good:

I have one and he eats Brine Shrimp and Bloodworms. He's starting to eat flakes here and there. If you put Java Moss he will pick at it, which is good.

Hand feeding is tricky, I personaly don't do it cause I have no need to.

You knife fish will not Nip, but he will bully other fish if they bother him or get in his way alot.

Also do not buy those clear tubes for him to hangout in. The clear tubes will act as a hiding place for him but thats not what they like cause they can't hide from the light. I don't understand why people get those things. You should make a cave, about 2"-3" wide and long enough so he will hide in. Or you could just get a 2" PVC pipe thats 8" long and stick it in there. They are nocturnal fish.

Just some advice for ya.

Good advice, those tubes are stupid.

He wont nip, as they dont, they are however prone to sucking out the eyes of other fish, but this is usually once they reach a larger size than yours.

If you are having trouble feeding him, then use a something like a turkey baster to suck up the food and then put right down in front of his hiding place, that way he will be able to find it much quicker. You dont need tubes now, but you do need somewhere he can fit in and cover himself, it will make him more confident to know he has somewhere to hide and in turn will make him less shy. My ghost loves his coconut caves, he started out in just a single coconut hollowed out, now as he's grown, he onto three all pushed together to create a tunnel, he loves it!

We have lots of hiding places for him. and most of them he will be able to use when he gets bigger.

We have a 200L tank but by the time he gets bigger we will have bought a bigger tank probs around the 450L mark probably bigger.

He seems a bit more confident today as he has been swimming round a bit more, we do put the food in his hiding place so we are hoping he eats it, he has eaten pellets and we give him blood worms.

Like the idea of the coconut caves might give that a try for him.

Thanks.
