Black Ghost Knife Fish Behavior

Anyone know of behavior about there knife fish swimming upside down with there mouth touching top of the water and swimming really fast back and fourth?

looking for food or scouting the territorry

Never ever seen mine do this, he generally stays to the bottom searching for food, the only time he comes to the surface is when its feeding time, then he comes to get it from my hand.

Swimming upside down isnt unusual, but Id be concerned about doing it at the surface, do you have enough aeration in the tank.

can't say mine does that either. It comes to the top for food, but mainly stays at the bottom or middle of the tank.

Well I do have 1 1/2" x 8" pvc pipe that he hangs out in. Another thing is that he likes to position verticley in the plants and next to the heater for a few minutes. Hes out swimming around like other fish do. Don't get me wrong, he does hide and when he does he is peeking around.
