i have a few bettas that had nice halfmoon tails but are now quite damaged...a couple bit their tails off, and another one suffered from fin rot...now their tails are about half the size from where they were once..i tried my platinum male that bit his tail off to breed but was unsuccesful, and he was even beaten by the female..my question is...would bettas with damaged tails still be able to breed?

Definitely :)
I have a HM male with huge heavy finnage, and he has completely torn it up. Everything in his tank is smooth and not spikey so you wouldn't think he'd be able to tear his tail on anything, but it happens on a regular basis. I think for a fish with fins that big the only way to prevent it would be to keep him in a completely barren tank, and I just can't do that to him :/
