I have a 5 gal tank w/ a guppy and 2 cory catfish...all of a sudden today the smaller of the two catfish has a problem w/ one of his front fins, it looks bent, and there is also a very noticeable bite out of his tail fin. his color is also not very good at all....i havent seen the other fish bothering him, so i have no idea what happened and i dont know what i should do. He just keeps swimming around near the front of the aquarium. can i help him?

Here are pics of the bitten cory...

I had this exact situation with my Albino Cory last week... look at my signature. Unfortunately, the damage on my cory was so bad that he died shortly thereafter. Turns out that my swordtail was really aggressive towards the smaller fish in the tank. I have a feeling that your guppy is the culprit... I've read that they can be "nippy."

Get some Melafix in that tank as soon as possible to help prevent the injury from being infected. It's sure going to take some time to heal.

I hope your cory gets through this.

Hi Katum :)

I've never heard of a guppy attacking a cory, but I suppose nothing is impossible! -_-

However, I'd look around your tank to see if there is anything that he could have gotten himself snagged on or trapped in. This is important because if it happened once it could happen again.

The picture does not look like the damage is too bad. His fins will heal and, as long as he is not hurt in any other way, he will be oK.

Day before yesterday, when I was at one of the lfs, I saw a little albino cory in a tank with cichlids. His dorsal fin and tail were bitten, so I bought him and named him Pinky after Jaywings19's poor little cory. He will recover and yours will too.

 I tried to walk away, but couldn't. I have albino corys that have bred for me so I surely didn't need him, but when I thought about your Pinky I just couldn't leave him there

I'm just a softee when it comes to my corys! :*)
