Ok, now that everything seems to be going better with my fishless cycle, I'm turning my attention to the look of the water...

While in terms of quality, it looks crystal clear and is doing everything it should do in terms of levels, I seem to have 'bits' everywhere.

It's almost like looking at orange juice at times, especially when the water is disturbed in some way.

Any ideas as to what it could be? Is it normal? Shouldn't my filter be dealing with it?

Bits...?

Do you have plants in there?

Did you give the gravel / sand a good clean before you added it to the tank?

I have one plant...on bogwood.

I rinsed the gravel well before adding it...and everything had a good soaking of 2 weeks in the old tank water, before I chucked the lot out and started my (stalled) fishless cycle again.

Doesn't sound too sinister then, just give it a good vacuum before adding any fish. Chances are it's just some dead plant matter.

My tank has loads of bits of dead plants floating around, stipd vallis... I'm leaving it to sink then covering it in riccia :)
