Hi, i have some live rock in my tank. Before i put the live rock in about a month ago i rinsed it of with tank water to get any bits off. Now about a month later and there is light brown bits scatered all over the live rock at the bottom of the tank.

First off, is this normal?

What is the best way to get it off? i have tried to suck it off when water changing but it is stuck on fast.

Thanks...

This sounds to me like Diatoms - this is a normal part of your Cycle and will cleap up

What is your flow rate, as a low flow will allow this to continue, Are you using Tap water as this will contain Phos will will feed the algea

Chac,

Thanks for your help, tho i don't think it is this.

My flow rate is 1500 ltrs x 2 (40 gal) and i am using DI Water. Tank has been setup just under 6 months now.

Yeah looks like some form of red macro algae (not all red macro algae are red  ).

I would suggest you increase the cleanup crew.. perhaps a mithrax crab or something. problem is finding a critter that will eat this type of algae.

I think it is some sort of organic waste. When i move a rock with this on, it all floats off and gets sucked into the filter.

Anybody came across this?

Actually I think I had something that looked very similar to that when I first started up my tank. I didn't really do anything to try and get rid of it. It just sort of went away. I did add a mithrax crab so he could have eat it.
