hello i am mojodojo and this is my first time posting in this section and since yahoo ignored me i figured everyone here wouldnt! i think i have not introduced to you guys my good girl cheeky, shes a quaker livin in california, which is apparently illegal to do. but weve been runnin into problems with her behaviuor that i know i can fix but mt parents dont understand the concept of the extinction screech! so its either i have her with me at all times or send her off to my grandpa in puerto rico who gave her to me in the first place, personally i would have her stay here but for reasons youll soon read i think it wouldbe best for everyone involved (except for my grandpa, dont think he will mind a bird he has known thuogh and no imnot being heartless cuz ill be able to see her again over the summers and winters so i dont really need to miss her that much. any way my question is (please read thruogh, and dont be dicuraged! )

I have a spare cage want to get another bird?

i have a vision medium cage and soon to be a large parrot cage (cheeky is goin to my grandpa were shell be able to live a much happier life with her brothers and sisters and lots of finches and ringnecks and cokatiels and doves and love birds and budgies outside in an aviary in puerto rico. instead of being in a cage or around the house all day and not being able to go outside cuz of bad neighbors who hate everything and others who try to shoot her w/ an airsoft gun. i got my airsoft gun and a sniper rifle and gave them what had coming to them. as you can see ill miss her greatly but not too bad as 1. ill be seing her every summer and every other thanksgiving, christmas, and spring break. 2. ill be allowed to get another bird as long as its quiet and tame. cheeky wasnt tame when we got her cuz she was raised by her parents who are dead now so she didnt really get to socialize and learn things.)

both of the cages have 3/4 inch bar spacing and was wondering if i could either get a pair of diamond doves, blue ground doves or a greenwing dove(s) or a senegal parrot from Omars (i live in ca) i have had another senegal before cheeky and he was the greatest and he never squaked cuz they train them before hand.

so my questions are (sorry for al the writing btw):

1. which type of bird should i get? diamond doves or senegal parrot?how much do they cost (only pick one type of bird, makes it easier)

2. which cage would be better suited to them? diamond doves breed readily btw and hopefully petsmart wont lie to me (i know about the ring differentiation, but i dont really get it)

3. would these birds be acceptable in a neighborhood like mine? we called the police on the airsofter so he cant shoot into our backyard anymore

(if you chose the doves)4. how loud is thier cooing? is it as loud as a parrot?

5.at this time, any good names?
here are my suggestions: louie the second (parrot, last senegal i had was named louie), ying and yang

6. any good sites if i have immediate concerns for something?

7. how availabe are these birds (exnay the diamond dove cuz theres some in petsmart) and howmuch do they cost(exnaythe diamond)

thanksfor putting up w/ the long thing!

ok, not sure on cost etc as i'm in the UK, but my other half's parents have a senegal and its a noisey beggar!

very tame though if bought from a breeder. if you want to hand tame a bird, do not buy one from a petstore like pets at home, as theyre not handled and hand shy, therefore can bite

ok i have a question for you lol what do you want the bird to do tricks talk .............. etc as doves wont do this and they will only breed if provided with a nesting platform and material
senagals are more interactive and playfull but cost more you would be better joining a bird forum and ask a few questions there
regards scot :)

sorry if this justs bumps up, but no i will instead be getting diamond doves from the petstore and breed them for a family!
yes i also went to a bird forum.

does anyone recommend other types of exotic doves for me to look into later?

also i have a new thing/list/dream aviary, but want to know how big i will need it to be, and how to divide it,here are the birds ill get
eclectus-2
bartletts bleeding hearts-2
golden heart dove-2
some fruit dove-2
cockatoos-2
senegal parrots-2
cockatiels-4
ringnecks/moustache/plum headed parakeets-2,2,2
amazons-2 types of 2 each
conures- 2 types of 2 each
lorikeets-3 types of 3 each
and hopefully if shes still alive by then, cheeky!

btw 2 as in pasirs to breed.

along with 5 fish tanks from 20-200 gallons and most likely dogs and some snakes, would this be too much?
i plan on being a vet so i guess that helps lol and most likely getting married to. hopefully shell love animals as much as i do!

i think im crazy!

the avairies and tanks (most) and dogs and snakes will of course wait till 1. i find a big enough house lol and 2. when i have the funds to actually start it without going broke (plan on having a bank account just for that. idk how it works though (not the point!)

all i have and wll have for a long while will be:
cheeky
fish tank (20)
diamond doves or recommendations, i have yet to strike a deal with my parents.
maybe one of my current dogs (can you take them to college?) UC davis btw

I would go for diamond doves. Thier calls are so soothing and calming, and they breed readily in captivity. Take the Parrots off the menu if you a tempered nieghbours. I'm quit sick of seeing our neighbour's face in my home complaining about my bird's calls...... our neibour also complaints about our Zebra finches calls :fun:

  1. what a low for that person "your finches peeping is toooo loud! i cant hear myself think within 1 foot of their housing!! :grr: "
2. iv decided to go with the diamonds as well and ill be breeding them for another one/two.
3. have they ever called animal services on you? if so what did they do? mine did and he didnt do anything, i even told the guy it was a quaker parrot (they are illegal in Ca) and he didnt do ****! as long as my neighbor dont find out, im good :fun:

1-I realy hate that neighbour...... I had told my little brother to do a prank on that neighbour by releasing Tarantulas in and out of his house!!..... you should had seen how our neibours hair stood up like cat hahahah ( my little brother breed's tarantulas).

2- Diamond doves are so pretty and cute they are so easy to keep and breed..... and the way they chase you around the Aviary is quit adorable, mine keeps fallowing me all over the aviary, they even nip on my feet and hand, that's way I advice whoever want's to keep birds should go for diamond doves.

3- No he wouldn't dare to call the animal service :shifty: even if he did, is he going to say (the finches are so noisy) he must having ears that 5 times more sensitive than the bat's ears to hear my zebra finches calls
