Like the title says, I have a mini penguin biowheel and I was told that it would turn yellow in color (the wheel) and not to clean it, etc.. because that was what you wanted to happen... Well.. Its got some yellow stuff on it now, and I opened up the top of it the other day and pulled the filter up and noticed it was really thick in yellow "goop". I washed some of it off, but not all of it, and put it back... Is that normal? Should I be changing the filter, and if so, how often, when, etc... Please help, the box or the pamplet inside didnt help me out with this question... Thanks!

You want to change the filter on a regular basis. Monthly at least. The Bio-wheel is ther to harbor all your beneficial bacteria. Never ever rinse this off. If for some reason it does become laden with debris and you feel the need to rinse it, do it only in established tank water. Like when you are doing a water change you can swish it around in your siphoned off water before you discard it.
