Biorb Airpump

Hi, just wondering, we can hear the airpump working and it sounds to me that it is quite loud.
As our tank has been my dad's for the last 5 yrs or so and as far as i know it's still the old pump, i'm guessing the pump could need changing for a new one? I can try to get a recording if that would help?

It's just the way they're built. The biorb filters aren't great tbh. There are loads of quiet ones. I can't remember what type my old one was.... It was great though.

Never liked the biorbs. Lack of space, too much plastic and yea loud air pump. I have no idea if you can swap them about freely but there's tons of different pumps out there that are much better.

It's just the airline leading out to the pump so i'd think as long as the airline fits it should fit others, anyone recommend a specific make?

Any stanfard aquarium air pump can be used with the bio orb and it is a good ideal to do so because the stronger the air pump the better the filter will work. The pump that comes with the bio orb becomes tired within 6 months.
 
Tetra Tech air pumps are good value for money, or you could get a very cheap one on Ebay that will come from China, beleive it or not some of them are decent.

Personally, I'd avoid the 12V one unless you want to run it off batteries for some reason. 12V stuff tends to rev higher for the same effect, making them noisier in the higher pitches, which is generally annoying.

So do i need to be looking at higher or lower voltage?

Go for the mains voltage ones, less to go wrong and wider market available. 12V ones have the advantage of running off batteries easily though, if you ever need that.

 Huh? im confused i thought all air pumps run off mains? or at least i've never seen one that runs off batteries
